Emily Koning earned her B.A., with honors, from Marshall University in 2010, and thereafter her J.D. from the University of Baltimore in 2013. During law school, Emily developed her family law experience by serving as a judicial intern to the Honorable Kendra Ausby. She also clerked at the Office of the Public Defender in the Parental Defense Division, where she aided in the defense of parents accused of child abuse and neglect. She even represented her own clients, as a student attorney with the University of Baltimore Family Law Clinic.
After graduation, Emily served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Andrea Kelly, in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, where she spent every day with Magistrate Kelly, hearing cases involving modification of custody, child support, and alimony, as well as petitions for contempt and protective orders.
Emily has been an associate attorney at SIEGELLAW since July 2017, after bring previously employed as an associate attorney in the Baltimore area for several years. Emily handles family law cases throughout the entire State of Maryland, including Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Cecil County, Frederick County, Harford County, Howard County, Montgomery County and Prince George’s County. Emily brings her clients the family law knowledge that she has collected from many sources, including invaluable education from judges, magistrates, and other practitioners.
While Emily values and recognizes the importance of attempting to negotiate settlements, she is a realist– not all people are willing to be cooperative. Emily will not hesitate to advise a client to pursue litigation, especially when opposing parties or their counsel appear to be playing games instead of productively moving forward. Emily zealously, confidently and assertively stands up for clients’ rights, at all times.
Emily has an additional focus on representing victims of domestic violence, as well as persons wrongfully charged with domestic violence. This is an important area of law, fraught with high emotions and bad conduct, and Emily aggressively represents her clients in this area of family law.
